A test takes two minutes and catches almost every setup problem.

The quick way: the test page

Open Live chat › Chat settings › Install and click Open test page. It opens a page that behaves like a real visitor on your site, using your site key.

The test page runs on localhost. Add localhost to the site’s allowed domains first, otherwise the bubble won’t load there. Remove it again when you’re done if you prefer.

The real way: your own site

  1. Open your website in a private (incognito) window, so you are a brand-new visitor.
  2. Click the chat bubble and send a message, for example “Test — do you ship to Germany?”.
  3. In the dashboard, open Live chat › Inbox. Your message appears under Waiting. If auto-assignment is on and you are marked Online, it goes straight to Mine.
  4. Click Take (or press A), type a reply and send it.
  5. Switch back to the private window. The reply is there, with your display name.

Clean up

Resolve the test conversation with Resolve or E. Test conversations count toward your monthly conversations like any other, so one or two tests are plenty.
