AskCub uses one short script for your site. When live chat is switched on for the site, that script loads the chat launcher (about 6 KB) by itself. You never paste a second chat snippet.

1. Copy the embed code

Open Live chat › Chat settings › Install and copy the snippet. It looks like this, with your own site key:

<script defer src="https://static.pathclue.com/client.js" data-site="YOUR_SITE_KEY"></script>

Paste it into the <head> of every page, or before </body> in your theme footer. defer means it waits until your page is ready, so it never slows the page down.

Already measure your site with PathClue? Then this script is already on your pages. Skip to step 2.

Platform-by-platform steps (WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Google Tag Manager) are on the integrations page.

2. Switch chat on

Go to Live chat › Chat settings › Appearance, turn on Enable live chat and click Save. Only the site owner and admins can open Chat settings.

While you are there, set the brand name and primary colour. You can change everything later without touching code.

3. Reload your site

Open your site in a new tab, or reload an open one. After the first page view the script learns that chat is on and loads the launcher; the bubble appears in the bottom corner. Pages that were already open need one reload.

Check it worked

  • The chat bubble is in the corner of your page.
  • In your browser’s developer tools, the network tab shows widget.js loading.
  • When you are online in the inbox, the bubble shows a small green dot.

If the bubble doesn’t appear, see Troubleshooting. The most common reason is that the domain you are testing on isn’t in the site’s allowed domains.

Turning chat off

  • Everywhere: turn off Enable live chat and save. Existing conversations stay in the inbox.
  • On one page: add data-chat="false" to the script tag on that page.
  • On phones: turn on Hide bubble on mobile in Appearance.
