Proactive messages

Say hello
before they leave.

Most visitors who hesitate never ask. Spot them in the live list and send one friendly line, or let an invite rule do it for you on the pages that matter. On their side it is a small bubble — easy to answer, easy to ignore.

Three ways to start

You choose when to speak first

Proactive does not mean pushy. Pick the moment yourself, let a simple rule pick it, or send one note to everyone you are already talking to.

By hand, from the live list

See someone on checkout for three minutes? Click their row, type a line, send. They see a preview bubble with a soft sound.

Live visitorsOne click

By rule, on the pages you pick

Pricing page for 30 seconds? Show “Questions about plans?”. Each rule has a page match, a delay, a message and its own numbers.

Page matchDelayPriority

To many, in one go

Shipping delayed or a sale starting? Pick the open conversations and broadcast one message. Each visitor receives it in their own thread.

BroadcastUp to 50
01One click

From “they look stuck” to “hi” in one click

The live list shows everyone with the widget loaded, the page they are on and how long they have been there. Visitors you can reach have a Start chat button right on the row.

  • Start chat from the live list or from a visitor’s detail card
  • Their source, page, path and visit count stay beside the message box
  • If a teammate is already chatting with them, you see it — no double hellos
  • When they reply it becomes a normal conversation in your inbox
Be specific · “Is the promo code not working?” gets more replies than “Can I help?”
Wait a little · A minute or two on checkout is a better signal than ten seconds.
02On their screen

A bubble, not a pop-up

Your message appears as a small preview bubble next to the chat launcher, with your name and photo. It never covers the page, and closing it is one tap.

  • Sender name and avatar, so it feels like a person — because it is
  • A soft notification sound if the visitor has sound on
  • Reply opens the chat window with your message already there
  • Shown in the visitor’s language when translation is on
03Invite rules

Let a simple rule say hello for you

An invite rule watches for visitors on the pages you choose. After the delay you set, it shows your invite message as a preview bubble. Replies come to the inbox like any other chat.

  • Match all pages, a URL that contains or starts with some text, or a pattern
  • Delay from 3 seconds to 10 minutes on the page
  • Priority decides which rule wins when several match the same page
  • Show once per visitor, so returning visitors are not invited again
  • Shown, opened and replied counts for every rule

Number of rules depends on the plan (see below).

04Broadcast

One update, everyone you are talking to

When something changes — a delay, a sale, a fix — pick the open conversations it affects and send one message. Each visitor receives it in their own thread and can reply privately.

  • Up to 50 conversations per broadcast
  • Each copy lands in the visitor’s own conversation, not a group chat
  • Recorded in each conversation’s history, so everyone on the team knows
  • Can be limited to certain agents with a permission
Broadcast to 12 conversations

Each visitor receives this in their own conversation.

05Never nagging

Friendly limits, built in

Proactive messages only work if visitors do not learn to ignore them. AskCub keeps the defaults polite so you do not have to think about it.

  • At most one proactive message per visit
  • Invite rules can show only once per visitor
  • When several rules match a page, only one invite is shown
  • Closing the bubble is a single tap
One per visit

A visitor gets at most one proactive message in the same visit, whoever sends it.

Once per visitor

Turn this on for a rule and returning visitors will not see the same invite again.

One rule at a time

If several rules match the same page, the one with the highest priority is shown — never a stack of bubbles.

Easy to ignore

The bubble sits beside the launcher and closes with one tap. Nothing blocks the page.

Help that notices hesitation

Next, Cubby will notice the moments people usually give up — and offer help with the context attached.

  • Uses signals your site already sends, no extra tracking
  • Cubby asks first; your team picks up if needed
  • Same once-per-visit limits as every proactive message
Spot hesitation, offer help

When a visitor lingers on checkout, clicks around repeatedly or hits an error, Cubby asks “Need a hand?” on its own.

FAQ

Questions about proactive messages

Is a proactive message a pop-up?
No. It is a small preview bubble next to the chat launcher. It does not cover the page or block scrolling, and the visitor can close it with one tap.
Who can I send a proactive message to?
Visitors who are on your site with the chat widget loaded. They appear in the live list with a Start chat button. Visitors who have left can’t be messaged.
What is the difference between a message and an invite rule?
A message is sent by a person, by hand. An invite rule is automatic: it shows a preset message after a visitor has spent a set time on a matching page.
Will visitors get several messages?
No. Each visit gets at most one proactive message, and an invite rule can be set to show only once per visitor.
Do proactive messages count as conversations?
A conversation starts when the visitor replies. Bubbles nobody answers do not use your monthly conversations.
Can Cubby answer the reply?
Yes. If the AI agent is on, Cubby can answer the visitor’s reply from your knowledge base, and hands over to your team when it is unsure.
