Ask most companies what support costs and they’ll have an exact figure. Ask what it earns and you’ll get a shrug. That gap is why support teams struggle for budget, even when they quietly save sales every day.

Here’s how to make the value visible without overclaiming.

Start with goals you already track

You don’t need a new system. Most websites already track goals in their analytics: purchases, sign-ups, bookings, quote requests. The question is simply: of the visitors who chatted, how many reached a goal — compared with those who didn’t chat?

Because AskCub shares one visitor identity with your website analytics, it can compare both groups on the same day, using your own goals.

The three numbers

NumberMeaning
Chatted conversion rateShare of visitors who chatted and reached a goal that day
No-chat conversion rateShare of visitors who only browsed and reached a goal
Relative liftChatted rate ÷ no-chat rate − 1
Conversion: visitors who chatted vs those who did notSample data
  • Chatted6%
  • Did not chat2%
Example: 6% of chatters convert against 2% of non-chatters, a lift of 6 ÷ 2 − 1 = 200%. That is correlation, not necessarily cause — see the next section.

Add the pages where buying conversations start, and a simple funnel: visitors → chatted → reached a goal.

Be honest about cause and effect

Visitors who start a chat are usually more interested to begin with. Some of them would have bought anyway. So a high lift doesn’t mean chat caused every one of those sales.

Use the numbers in ways that survive that objection:

  • Compare periods. Did conversion among chatters change after you added checkout invites or faster replies?
  • Compare pages. Where does chat make the biggest difference?
  • Watch sample size. With fewer than about 30 chatting visitors, the comparison is too noisy to trust.

Add the quieter value

Not everything shows up as a conversion:

  • Questions answered after hours by the AI agent — visitors who would otherwise have waited until morning.
  • Problems spotted early — a broken discount code, a confusing shipping page — fixed before they cost more sales.
  • Knowledge gained — every conversation tells you what your product pages aren’t saying.

Keep a short monthly list of these. It makes a stronger case than any single percentage.

A one-page monthly report

  1. Conversations, resolution rate, satisfaction.
  2. Chatted vs no-chat conversion, with the sample size.
  3. Top pages where buying conversations started.
  4. Three things support learned and fixed this month.

The takeaway

Support’s value isn’t invisible — it’s just unmeasured. Connect conversations to the goals you already track, read the numbers honestly, and add the stories behind them.
